Climate change is deeply affecting Turkey as well as the whole world. Especially in the Marmara Region, environmental changes and the increase in water use due to industrialisation and population growth are attracting attention. IMMIB also contributes to the efforts to slow down the destructive effects of global climate change with new projects.
We will support environmental awareness with a new project within the scope of the ‘Climate Change Adaptation Grant Programme’ implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change. With the ‘Promoting Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change by Preventing Water Loss’ Project, which will start its activities in December, we will aim to
- Raise awareness on water management in the sectors manufacturing of chemicals and non-metallic mineral products,
- Optimise water use by identifying the best available techniques; and
- Strengthen the capacity of these sectors to adapt to climate change.
In line with these objectives, we will carry out the following activities during our project:
- Conducting Climate Change Impact Analyses in Determined Sub-Sectors: Water availability analysis, analysis of sectoral climate indicators, future climate change impact projections and analysis of socio-economic indicators
- Determination of the Amount of Water Used per Unit in Related Sectors: Survey applications on 350 companies, statistical evaluations and report preparation
- Analysing Best Existing Techniques and Establishing an ‘Implementation and Cooperation’ Platform: Analysing water management practices in European pilot regions and compiling this data in an open-source online platform
- Visits to the identified ‘Best Available Technique’ Sites and Preparation of Characterisation Report: Collecting real, concrete and accurate data from the selected areas
- Launching an initiative for Best Available Techniques, preparation of a documentary and guidelines
- Sectoral Best Available Techniques Study Visits Abroad: To address potential issues related to the applicability of the data collected and to accelerate the rapid adaptation of industry to water management techniques
- Preparation of Ministry Level Action Plan: Ensuring transparency and public participation in the results of the projects, increasing the sustainability and replicability of the project
Follow our project to accompany the steps we will take on water loss with the aim of reducing the effects of climate change!
